Did you know The Nelson airport is the 5th busiest airport in New Zealand that after,
- Auckland
- Christchurch
- Wellington
- Queenstown

Making it the busiest domestic airport in NZ, approximately 1.2 million passengers and visitors use the airport terminal annually, and did you know The Bouncing Lamb is the closest hostel to Nelson Airport.
Nelson is located in the best part of New Zealand at the top of the south island the center of New Zealand” so no wonder it is busy not only is it the coolest place to visit it’s like the halfway point, break up your trip from the North to the South or South to North.
The Nelson airport terminal is currently undergoing some major improvements, something like $32 million improvements, the airport will actually have enough parking, retail stores, more options than just the one airport cafe that my Nana started YEARS ago to get food and drinks from, the building will be state of the art and not to mention huge for Nelson.

The Nelson Airport is located in a suburb called Annesbrook about 8km from Nelson City center and 9km from Richmond and only 2.7km from Tahuannui Beach an absolute top spot all year round.
No matter where you are heading it is easy to get from the airport to your destination, there are plenty of taxis, shuttles and depending on where you have booked to stay you may get a free pick up/drop off, for example, The Bouncing Lamb Backpackers is located in Tahuannui right next to the beach and is happy to pick their guests up and drop guests to the airport at any time.

Please note the Nelson airport is a domestic airport and is not open 24 hours a day, so if you have an early flight out/in or late flight in/out make sure you have sorted accommodation, if you have a quick turn around sleeping outside the terminal will not be very fun and certainly not peaceful as you will have security guards tapping on your shoulder giving you the move along. There is a number of accommodation options close by.
